StavePress advantages over a vise or shave-horse:
Like most innovative and successful machines, the StavePress was conceived and designed out of necessity. After several years of development, many structural designs, dimensions, materials, and building processes, there is now nothing else on the market that will hold a sizable workpiece of wood as firmly and yet gently as the StavePress.
Smart Design:
The StavePress holds workpieces via pressure from top and bottom- allowing the craftsman to bear down extremely hard on the workpiece without fear that the wood will be dislodged or damaged. If similar heavy downward pressure is exerted while using a regular vise, the workpiece can leverage itself out of the jaws of the vise- marring or crushing the woodgrain, causing damage and frustration.
Innovation:
The upper pressure plate of the StavePress pivots around a ball joint, allowing it to conform to the shape of the workpiece. This conforming angle of the swiveling upper plate grips the wooden workpiece at multiple points. Since multiple points are contacted, there is less pressure on each point. The bottom line is that your work piece will be held very firmly without any damaging pressure being applied to any one spot.
